My love..............

bet you thought I was going to say my husband, huh? HA!  No, another love, my Rudy.  I probably love Rudy more than my children at times.  Well, especially now... I have 3 that are teenagers and they are giving me a run for my money!  But seriously, Rudy has always been there- no matter what.  Unconditional love at its finest.

Well, my Rudy gave me quite a scare yesterday.  The cookies that I had planned on decorating were put on hold while I was in the middle of a severe "freak out " session.   Something was wrong with my Rudy and I didn't know what to do.  Long story short- he was sitting on my couch- a big no no.  So I took him off and noticed that he couldn't put weight on his right hind leg.  I looked to see if an object was stuck in his paw- but found nothing.  He wasn't whimpering or aggressive.  Just kind of looking like the above picture. So, I tried to get him to walk.  Even tried bribing him with snacks (btw, he's GAINED 12 pounds since we got here! My dad is going to KILL me!) but he wouldn't budge.   So I called the vet and made an appointment .  No biggie- or so I had thought.

The time came and usually when we  go "bye bye", he is freaking out.  He LOVES to ride in the car.  So I got his leash and thought he would be able to walk out to the truck.  But, no, this was not to happen.  Instead. he wouldn't even get up at all.  I tried coaxing him, bribing him, and nothing worked.  Every time he did try, both hind legs would give out.  Now my Mommy radar is revving and I don't know what's going on.  I call the vets office  for suggestions.  After a few, I tried them all, but nothing worked. There was no freaking way I would be able to pick up this 92 lb. lab by myself, and no one was around to help me.  I called DH is sheer panic mode.  What do I do?  After a few minutes of sobbing (cause now I'm thinking that something is SERIOUSLY wrong with him) I thought of the kids sleds in the garage.  So I grabbed a sled , hoisted him up by a towel, and gently placed him on it.  I slid him across the house and then, I was stuck- STAIRS!!!  So I took the towel, placed it under his belly and hoisted his hind legs up, so he could walk on his two front legs.  Boy was he heavy!  Got him to the truck and now I had to figure out a way to pick him up (cause he wasn't moving at all).  Somehow, I got the strength and I picked him up .

As I am driving, I now know there is something definitely up with him.  He wouldn't even sit up to look out the window- his favorite thing in this world.  I arrived at the dr.'s office and opened up the back .  He was just laying there.  I went inside to get help and he needed two men to carry him in.  At this point, I am in tears.  I was so afraid .

But then, in typical Rudy fashion, he started to sniff around and got up.  I couldn't believe it!  Then he was acting like his normal self and pulling on the leash.  He was making me a liar.

Needless to say, it turns out that he strained a muscle and was given some anti-inflammatories.  Now he is acting like nothing happened.

I could just wring his neck, but he's
too cute and I love him too much!! So, I'll be back to the grind tomorrow - thank goodness for normal!
